Mr Crowe asked the Minister for Health and Children further to Parliamentary Question No. 254 of 3 July 2003, if he will report on the discussions between his Department and the Department of Finance regarding the funding implications of the national health board working group report on disability related allowances. Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children (Mr. T. O'Malley):I propose to take Questions Nos. 359 to 362, inclusive, together.

As the Deputy is aware the national health board working group on disability related allowances recommended the extension of the motorised transport grant to third level students.
My Department accepts the submission made by the working group and the recommendations it contains in relation to the motorised transport grant. However, consideration of any improvements to existing schemes and services will be subject to Government policy in relation to additional service developments in 2004 and the prevailing budgetary considerations.
