eAccessibility Day Play Your Part

International Day of Disabled Persons takes place on December 3rd. This year the focus will be on eAccessibility.

Information technologies (IT) enable people with disabilities to play a more active role in society and reach their full potential.

PwDI will mark international day by hosting lunchtime conferences on Friday December 1st in every county, with the special theme of enabling people with disabilities to develop information and communications technology skills so that they can access the labour market.

Michael Ringrose, Chief Executive of PwDI says: “We now live in a world where everyone should be able to create, access, utilise and share information and knowledge. “Access to information and communication technologies creates opportunities for everyone in society.

“Making information technologies available to people with disabilities is not only a matter of human rights, it also makes good business sense,” he says.

A recent study of the FTSE 100 companies in the UK showed that around three quarters of company websites did not achieve basic levels of accessibility. By not making their websites accessible, UK companies are forfeiting Stg £80 billion in lost revenue.
