Up to 150 delegates attended each of the first two PwDI Regional Seminars in the Great Southern Hotel, Dublin Airport on Tuesday, 27 April and the Green Hills, Hotel Limerick on Tuesday, May 11.
The delegates to the Dublin Seminar came from counties Meath, Louth, Cavan, Monaghan, Wicklow and Dublin while the counties represented at the Limerick Seminar were Clare, Kerry, Cork, Tipperary as well as Limerick
Following Registration at 9.30am, the Seminar started with an Introduction by PwDI Chief Executive Michael Ringrose who introduced National Chairman Nigel Brander to give the opening address.
The first keynote speaker was Mairíde Woods, Comhairle Advocacy Executive, who outlined the work of Comhairle on advocacy.
PwDI Louth Chairman and National Board member Malachy Foots was next up. Speaking as and End User of services, Malachy gave a very focused address on his perspective.
The key part of the day's agenda were the four Workshops which focused on Advocacy from the following viewpoints: Group and Individual Advocacy, Standards and Monitoring Advocacy, Access to Advocacy and Service Provision of Advocacy. These proved most useful and provided all those attending with an opportunity to contribute.
After lunch the President of the Irish Human Rights Commission, Dr Maurice Manning gave the second key note address.
The four Workshop rapporteurs then presented their reports and the Seminar concluded with closing remarks from the Chairman.
Following Registration at 9.30am, this Seminar was also introduced by Michael Ringrose, with welcoming remarks on this occasion from National Vice-Chairperson, Lotti McClure.
The first keynote speaker in Limerick was Helen Lehart, Development and Social Policy Specialist with Comhairle who gave an outline of their role in Advocacy.
The end-user speaker in Limerick was John Redican, from Kerry Network.
Again, in Limerick, the key part of the day's agenda were the four Workshops which were all very well attended.
Irish Human Rights Commission President Dr Maurice Manning gave the second keynote address on the role of the Commission.
The day concluded with reports from the Workshops rapporteurs and closing comments from Chief Executive Michael Ringrose.
